Después de tantos años (1994)

Posted : 12 years, 2 months ago on 10 January 2012 10:02 (A review of Después de tantos años)

As a second part, after twenty years of shooting the first perplexed witness the revelation of the absolute decline of the characters in "El desencanto", Leopoldo María see a even crazier, a Juan Luis increasingly elusive and Michi consumed by a slow but inexorable disease, daring to scratch a little deeper into the interior of the relatives of the Panero miseries.

If in "El desencanto" could see inside of people like the wife and mother, Felicidad Blanch-true driving force of the film in spite of the ghost of the poet Panero, and outline the personal ruin of four individuals, in "Después de tantos años" through a sick and aged Michi encontrarmos a bleak reality. Which opens the door to absolute end. For me these two films, more than a symbol of the decline of Franco, are a bold bid to explore the intricacies of family relationships, with the interesting, no doubt, the election of a bourgeois family of post-Franco Spanish intellectual rundown.

The engine absent both films, the poet Leopoldo Panero, is only present in the new and critical comments of their children to specific situations in their lives together.
But the adjustment of accounts that might exist in the first installment of the series for its proximity in time, it is now diluted in the hatred of the past and absolute skepticism by a present where a future without expectations, glimpsed only physical death.

Shows the technical and creative well crafted sequences prematurely in some unfortunate Ricardo Franco (notably the reunion during the ride for younger siblings against the ruins of what was magnificent family mansion Astorga) and the main objection that I can make the new family portrait is the perhaps excessive use of flashback images referring to the first film and the use of an inappropriate soundtrack.

"Después de tantos años", Panero family returns to the "disenchantment" (the past always comes back), but this time in the form of utter hopelessness.

Vampyros lesbos (1970)

Posted : 12 years, 2 months ago on 8 January 2012 10:03 (A review of Vampyros Lesbos)

Viewing the movie today and in their entirety (as in Spain wonderful thing was brutally mutilated the film at its premiere), "Vampyros lesbos" emerges as one of the most curious and worthy, not better, works of the author (apart from to be the most dear to him), because it denotes a more original film and determined sense and a commitment within the terror inspiring, where they are also palpable defects in construction of the script, budget constraints (that blood ...) or a court music cabaret that grates too as background accompaniment.

Apart from the mediocrity of most of the actors (except for the excellent Dennis Price), especially if they are faced with an admirable, as enveloping as helpless, Soledad Miranda, who made a magnificent composition full of character, determination and charming natural and soon after perish tragically in a traffic accident. Jesus Franco also reserves the role of sadistic depraved sex doll collector, fairly well achieved.

Thus, a lesbian version of Dracula's Stoker frankly suggestive and very respectable filmography that improves an author's particular expression purely Spanish but stranger here, it is practically the only place where movie has yet endorsement: I seems quite unfair as more meritorious than others and when it could / wanted to make movies with his style and freedom has achieved good yields and very personal.

L'aventure, c'est l'aventure (1972)

Posted : 12 years, 2 months ago on 8 January 2012 11:43 (A review of L'aventure, c'est l'aventure)

Although narrative and plenty of ups and downs in the script license, title, is a more than acceptable to the French comedy-very French-like raids on a group of thieves from Paris to Martinique.

With some good times and good, but uneven performance of its actors, featuring Lino Ventura, as compelling as ever, the film looks to depending on the relative interest situations that are presented and the strokes of humor included. His biggest drag is the repetition of scenes, at times heavy and excessive elongation of some scenes. Although the latter has always been the biggest drag on the work of Lelouch: repetition of repetitions, as well demonstrated in his most famous film TITLE.

In short, light, funnily absurd comedy with colorful cast (Denner, Ventura, Juan Luis Buñuel and Jacques Brel to!) At times attractive, and some really fun shots worth seeing.

Leaving Las Vegas (1995)

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 28 December 2011 10:43 (A review of Leaving Las Vegas)

As with most american movies entered into the romance genre, especially in the last twenty years, "Leaving Las Vegas" pursued for the foreground the complicity of the audience, involving them in its plot, either through the peculiarities of characters, or through force situations to advance the story, have some type of development.
In this movie there are two peculiarities. In particular I found it impossible to believe in the interpretation of alcoholic dying Nicolas Cage (who, it is true, I could only stand in "Raising Arizona"). After his encounter with the prostitute, the similarities with "9 1 / 2 weeks" or "Pretty Woman" are becoming more evident, flooding of "clichés" the love story with a look ever closer to the video clip.
To finish decorating it, the protagonist dies in the moment you get your first orgasm with her long-suffering lover. Mayor fib is not possible. ¿"Leaving Las Vegas"? too much noise for so little and, worse, misleading results.

CUANDO LOS MUNDOS CHOCAN (1951)

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 24 November 2011 10:46 (A review of When Worlds Collide)

CINCO TENEDORES (1979)

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 24 November 2011 10:23 (A review of Cinco tenedores)

Resumiendo, efectismos huecos y simpleza.

A NUESTROS AMORES (1983)

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 24 November 2011 09:49 (A review of To Our Loves)

Bueno y recomendable.

JUGUETES EN EL ATICO (1963)

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 24 November 2011 09:20 (A review of Toys in the Attic)

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 23 November 2011 11:15 (A review of The Return of Martin Guerre (1982))

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 23 November 2011 10:38 (A review of The Fugitive (1947))
